All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

This was bound to happen sooner or later — It seems that a 911 call center in Iowa has announced that they will now be allowing the public to send SMS messages instead of actually calling them.

There is a catch, however, as only i wireless subscribers in Black Hawk County can use the SMS support. As for everyone else in Iowa, support most likely isn’t very far off.

SMS messages to notify 911 would prove to be very useful when making noise would put you in danger so let’s hope it catches on in other parts of the US.

Samsung Jitterbug Phones Recalled

Samsung Jitterbug phones were specifically marketed to seniors, offering a simple phone to operate. However, no thanks to a potential glitch where they may fail to connect to 911 services, Samsung has issued a voluntary recall for the said jitterbug phones.

Samsung may have developed a simple and easy to use phone for seniors but if this important aspect of the actual phone’s use is not addressed, they are practically useless. When it comes to seniors, ease of use is important. They are not too pleased nor impressed with the various technological enhancements we see today.

Hence, the one most important option that is important for any phone should be its main feature. Without it, elders don’t even need to carry a mobile phone. Well, you can at least credit Samsung for making the recall rather than allowing the market to find out first for themselves.

  • It’s not only Nokia that has problems with phones these days. LG is also recalling about 30,000 LG 830 Spyder handset which seem to have troubles calling for 911. And that could be a matter of life and death. LG has received just one negative report so things might not be as bad as they sound. But as these phones have “difficulty sustaining a connection or have poor voice quality on calls to emergency 911″ you should definitely considering returning yours.
