Firmware 2.1 for iPhone is set to arrive sometime in September. We’ve heard about various beta updates and it appears there’s one more. Beta 4 will disable the service which allows background data for native applications.

That means that the push notification data has been suspended for an indefinite period of time. It’s likely to return when Apple feels ready. Hopefully they will get they feeling by September since the push thing is for some the key feature in their iPhone.

Apple says that the notification code will be off limits for further development, without offering more information about future betas. I guess third party developers will pause any application that could use the push service until Apple finishes of the further development thing.

Are you reading the Times all the time? I mean the New York Times of course. If that’s your favorite newspaper and if you already own an iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll be happy to know that the New York Times is launching an iPhone application.

Apple’s @Me.com Email Goes Live?

Remember the WWDC 2008? All that fuss about the 3G iPhone? And did we get what we wanted? Well we did get some of it but we were expecting for much more. One other useful thing that came out of this WWDC was the new online service MobileMe. MobileMe will replace the .Mac service and @mac.com addresses will switch to @Me.com. Since MobileMe is available for pre-order, does the new Me.com email address work already?

  • That was the laugh at the day for me. Not because I wouldn’t agree on HTC Touch Diamond being better than the iPhone but because Vodafone UK have posted this on their official HTC web page. Here’s what they say:

Feature rich Windows Mobile 6.1 device utilising HTC’s new Touchflow UI. This device is in a tablet form factor meaning it is touch screen only. The Diamond surpasses the iPhone in all aspects, the key differentiator is the inherent flexibility of the Diamond. It comes loaded with Vodafone Email Plus and the Vodafone Sat Nav program. Launch expected in July

Are the grapes still sour Vodafone? Are you still pissed off that O2 is the only carrier to offer the iPhone in the UK? I mean it would be strange to say the HTC is better than the iPhone like that as long as you are still launching the iPhone in other places. And you would sure love to do so in UK! Am I right or am I right?

Word on the street is that the 3G iPhone will be sold starting July 11th 8 AM. Apparently this is another leaked piece of news from AT&T so I wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow they will announce anything different.

  • iPhone TelstraWhile we are getting closer to July 11th, the day Apple will start selling the 3G iPhone in 22 countries, we see more deals popping up. We’ve heard rumors about Russian carriers as well as Chinese carriers looking for a deal with Apple and we’ve heard rumors about Australian carrier Telstra wanting in.

It appears Telstra means business after all. After Optus and Vodafone, Telstra will be the third carrier to deliver 3G iPhone handsets to Australians. Talk about competition… Telstra officials will announce all of this on June 26th while the 3G iPhone from Telstra will go on sale on July 22nd. A race in three that’s something to see. Especially as Telstra is such a big carrier in Australia which got in the 3G iPhone race later than the others. Telstra also seems to have a small advantage over Vodafone and Optus; well it’s actually a bigger advantage. They offer better 3G speeds and more coverage. That means their plans and iPhone price might be higher than others.

Place your bets now! Who shall sell more iPhone in the next year? Is it Optus? Maybe Vodafone? Anyone choosing Telstra? I say Telstra for now!
