There’s a new player in the eBook readers business. Asus has confirmed that it will launch new eReaders in March 2010. The company confirmed that these devices will come with features like WiFi, 3G and WiMAX connectivity. Why would we need WiMAX in an eBook reader anyway? We don’t have all the specs but it looks like Asus plans to launch two eBooks, a 6- and a 9-inch model. Asus will test those readers in Taiwan before they become available in Europe and the U.S. Unfortunately it’s too early for pricing details so you’ll just have to wait a while for them. Of course you could pick a Nook or a Kindle in the mean time and get your reading on.

  • Samsung has a brand new phone for us but this one is not as impressive as some of the recent smartphones created by the company. The C5130 is a slider phone which lines perfectly with Samsung’s previous creations. The phone is rather an entry-level gadget which will probably be available for a more than decent price, if not free, with new contracts from different carriers.

The C5130 comes with quad-band GSM/EDGE and UMTS 3G connectivity, a 2-inch display, Bluetooth 2.0, a 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD support, FM radio and music player capabilities. As you can clearly see, the C5130 is decent handset but maybe you’re looking for something more than decent.

Korean customers will be able to select two new handsets from KT in the near future. One is the LG Lilac, but the most interesting one is the Samsung Prism, a WiMAX-enabled phone which could find its way to Sprint soon.

The Prism will offer WCDMA, WiFi and WiMAX connectivity which means you’ll definitely be able to enjoy decent data speeds. We’ll be waiting for more details about the Prism once KT, or Sprint, will announce it.

The LG Liliac is the other phone coming from KT, and although it’s not WiMAX enabled it will do just fine in a 3G network. Just like the Prism, the Liliac remains secret for now, but we’ll be waiting for more specs to emerge soon.

Nokia Mural is an interesting clamshell phone which was initially announced for AT&T only to be pulled off the shelves later on. Apparently the Mural had some issues with AT&T’s 3G network and couldn’t connect to it. But fear not Mura fans (if there are any), AT&T has fixed the issue and the Mural is back on the streets. The phone still costs $50 with a new 2-year contract but it won’t surprise anyone if you decide to ignore it and get something else for just a few extra bucks. Or do you actually happen to love this particular Finnish creation?

  • The fact that Big Red is investing in LTE technology is not news anymore. Verizon wants to launch the 4G network at some point next year and it’s currently testing and deploying it in various markets. The company will make LTE available in about 30 markets next year, while its entire CDMA footprint will get LTE in three years time. According to Verizon’s CTO, Tony Melone, the company wants to launch LTE in “as close to all-at-once as possible.” This will be possible by using part of the current CDMA infrastructure which should speed up the whole deployment process.

In case you’re scared that your current equipment will not function once LTE is deployed then I’m happy you need not worry. LTE and CDMA will work together so nobody will force you to ditch your favorite 3G device in favor of a brand new 4G gadget. Biut you’ll probably want to do that after you’ve seen the difference between LTE and 3G.

It’s been a while since we heard of ITG’s xpPhone in fact, the last we heard of it was back at Computex. Well, the device seems to have graduated from the drawing board and is now dangerously close to hitting Vodafone, Orange and AT&T.

As you can see, the device packs quite a punch with its 4.8-inch touchscreen display, video conferencing and 3G compatibility. One major thing to make note of is the fact that its primary operating system is Microsoft’s beloved Windows XP.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) ITG has yet to mention a price so when you actually go to pre-order the xpPhone, you won’t have to pay anything.

I guess it’s hard to believe Steve Jobs when he’s saying that the reason for the iPod touch 3G not to have a camera is that the device is a gaming console. That’s why some people went ahead and dismantled an iPod touch and what do you think they found? A 6 x 6 x 3 millimeter space between a Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna where a camera similar to the one found in the iPod nano 5G would definitely fit. And in case you’re wondering, the new iPod touch 3G could, at least in theory support WiFi 802.11n connectivity and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR which could be some of the features we’ll find in the next-gen iPod touch

As many iPhone owners continue to find ways to maximize the built-in camera included with their mobile handset, here is another application that should aid them in making the most out of their captured images. With the Picutrefxr iPhone app, photos are automatically enhanced and enlarged which turn your iPhone into a virtual digital camera.

Picturefxr turns an iPhone into a compact digital camera by sending full-size original photos over WiFi or 3G to the Picturefxr servers. Afterwards, better quality photos are returned which should be appease iPhone owners who look to improve on shots taken from their very own iPhone.

The Picturefxr iPhone App is now available at the ITunes Store for only $2.99.
