What you see above is Rogers‘ recently unveiled Rocket Hub 3G modem marketed for use in the home. In other words, this is the perfect solution for Canadian’s living in the boonies who can’t find an ISP but still get a cellphone reception.
The Rocket Hub features 7.2Mbps HSPA in addition to supporting WiFi and ethernet out. Rogers will also give you the ability to make voice calls over UMTS, a nice touch.
This device will go on sale sometime later this month for a currently unknown price with plans starting right around $35 Canadian.

Sure, what is pictured may look like an ordinary USB modem, but it’s not, it’s Sony Ericsson’s MD400G USB modem!
OK, so maybe the MD400G doesn’t have any super powers, but it does feature a microSD/Memory Stick Micro M2 slot with storage capacities up to 8GB. However, in terms of stuff you guys actually care about, it features 7.2Mbps download speeds, the ability to roam globally on 2G/3G and built-in GPS.
Best of all, it’s currently free on Rogers with a 3 year contract.

Virgin Mobile has finally released an official statment regarding their own USB broadband modem which had its picture leaked a few days ago.
The great thing about Virgin Mobile’s offering is that there is no contract commitment whatsoever. Plans are as follows:
10-days and 100 MB - $10
30-days and 250 MB - $20
30-days and 600MB - $40
30-days and 1GB - $60
And the Broadband2go USB dongle itself will cost $150.
So, you won’t be able to just stack up band with as other than the 10-day plan it will all run out at the end of the month. But oh well, at least you don’t have to sign your life away to a 2-year contract, right?
Virgin says the modem will be currently available only at Best Buy with only drivers for Windows XP and Vista having been announced at launch. What? No love for the Mac crowd?

The Huawei D100 router is a WiFi rooter with a twist. It’s way different than your average rooter. Instead of plugging your landline broadband connection into it, you will insert a 3G USB dongle into the top USB slot. After that the D100 shares the 3G broadband with any device no matter where you might be. Well don’t get that far from the router either!
It’s the best solution if you travel a lot. Just take the 3G modem3 with you! Another good news is that it works with both PC and Mac so you won’t have any problems setting it up/ Unfortunately it seems to be compatible only with Huawei USB modems.
You can buy it for $140, for the moment but only in the UK! I guess it’s worth the trip if you didn’t have to opt in for a 3 mobile broadband plan too!
