While AT&T is upgrading its 3G network to 7.2Mbps and while Rogers or T-Mobile are deploying 21Mbps HSPA+ networks, Huawei is working on something even bigger. It’s not LTE as you’d suspect is 56Mbps HSPA+ which should be available sometime next year in Beijing. The most interesting part is that Huawei is claiming that its partners will simply have to get a software upgrade in order to upgrade their networks. Could 56Mbps HSPA+ be that easy to deploy? That’s definitely a bold move from Huawei and its carrier partners should be very happy to hear such news. We’ll still want to see some more proof before we get too excited about such possibilities. Let’s see if other carriers, and I won’t name any names just yet, are going to be ready to offer similar theoretical speeds next year!

I bet you were not expecting T-Mobile to be the first carrier in the USA to deploy a 21Mbps HSPA+ network. While AT&T is working on theoretical speeds of 7.2Mbps, T-Mobile has gone ahead and deployed HSPA+ in Philadelphia. T-Mobile has twenty cell towers which will handle HSPA+ over Philadelphia but T-Mobile plans to add even more markets in the following year. It looks like HSPA+ will be T-Mo’s transition network from 3G to LTE so don’t get alarmed if you live in Philly and you’re not able to connect to that HSPA+ network at the moment. The top speed is theoretical for now and you’ll need some decent gadgets capable of handling such technology anyway before jumping to any conclusions.

It looks like the Canadians at Rogers Wireless are working round the clock to bring more speed to their subscribers. Rogers has deployed 21Mbps HSPA+ network in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal which happen to be the top five largest Canadian cities. The network is already in place but unfortunately, for everyone living in any of these five markets, there are no handsets capable to handle that speed. In case you need all that speed for your computer then you could go on and get the new 21Mbps HSPA+ Mobile Internet Rocket Stick. The gadget is available for pre-order for $79.99 with a contract so go ahead and get it.

If you’re a Rogers Wireless subscriber then you should know that the carrier is getting ready to launch its impressive 21Mbps HSPA+ network. Rogers will increase download speeds starting this August in the Greater Toronto Area. Other cities in Canada will see similar speed bumps “quickly over the coming months.” While Canadians will enjoy this significant speed increase from 7.2Mbps to 21Mpbs, AT&T customers will have to wait some more until LTE will be available since AT&T will not be launching a HSPA+ network. So, Rogers customers, let us know how the upgrade is working out for you!
