Sony Ericsson admitted that they lost around £19.4 million in Q3 of 2008. They are the first handset vendor to admit to having taken a clobbering this year. It’s partly due to its reliance on Europe but more on a severe decrease in the Average Selling Price (ASP) for handsets. SE, however, predicted that its Walkman brand would help shore up sales but the C902 Cybershot camera-phone is the surprise hit model of the quarter. The company also is due to launch Playnow with Telenor in Sweden during Q4 2008 with a special edition of the with Playnow built-in. It has also introduced three new Walkman phones including its first models with integrated Youtube support (W595, W902, G705).
Despite this terrible news, SE still managed to ship 25.7 million units in Q3 2008 and says its market share remains about flat at eight per cent. That will keep it in the number five slot unless Motorola does even worse. Sony Ericsson forecasts that the global handset market for 2008 will grow at a rate of around 10 per cent from more than 1.1 billion units in 2007. The catch is that a lot of these handsets are going to emerging markets.

There’s no point for drums, suspense or than many applause. The iPhone is the device that won the 2008 Gadget of the Year, Best Mobile Technology, Most Stylish Technology and Technological Innovation of the Year at the British Technology Awards. Well, I guess that the Touch Diamond, the G1, the Touch HD, the Bold and the Storm can’t compete with the iPhone, can they? No matter if you’re and iPhone fan or not, I’m sure you would have liked other devices to get some of those awards right?
On the other hand, and I am counting on your negative feedback on this, the iPhone has set new standards for mobile technology. No matter how good are all the other touchscreen phones out there, they have been inspired from Apple’s idea. Let those of you without sin throw the first stone at me!

Nokia announced that it expects its mobile device market share in Q3 2008 to be lower than in Q2, citing weaker consumer confidence in worldwide markets. This does not mean there will be a decline in mobile device volumes in 2008, which the Finland giant expects to grow 10% or more from the 2007 volumes, estimated at 1.14 billion units.
Other reasons cited by Nokia include:
Product launches and start of shipments will be on track for Q3 and Q4. The Q3 2008 results will be reported by the company on October 16, 2008.

Seems like ASUS rocked at the Computex 2008. Besides cool devices like the Handwriting Tablet, ASUS exhibited many other interesting products. Asus ZX1 Lamborghini Phone is one of the elegant phones in ASUS’s product portfolio at Computex. It derives its name from the famous sports car Automobili Lamborghini for sharing some features with the car. It has a masculine cut and sturdy exterior. This striking cell phone is made from carbon fiber and high grade stainless steel. This touch screen phone is truly made for “Elite Men”.

The last time Nokia put up a countdown timer on its site, the N82 was born. This time, with the accompanying MWC itinerary revealing nothing, I would wager on the N96, recently leaked by an irked German, and/or the S60 Touch. Either way, I would love to see the unbelievably packed N96 become a reality or even Nokia take on Apple with a far more superior device than the iPhone. But hey, with roughly 30 hours to go, we won’t have to wait too long, do we?
