This is the true story of how T-Mobile UK has been able to sell iPhone 3G units despite the official Apple partner in the UK is O2. And O2 exclusivity deal will expire in September if not later.
T-Mobile has been offering iPhone 3G units to its most exclusive clientele. The company apparently has been selling up to 150 phones a week to those customers that have contracts of at least £75 per month. T-Mobile is basically a reseller that offers SIM-free iPhones as an incentive method for its high-roller customers. That means T-Mobile UK isn’t doing anything illegal. Immoral, sure, but we’re living some rough economic times.
When will T-Mobile start selling that hot new iPhone 3GS? Maybe sometime in October?

I dont understand at all why Cingular(AT&T) wont sell an iPhone unit alone without a contract. If that happened, they would be making alot more money it seems, since everyone is trying to get their hands on one of those phones. I am currently right now, but the shitty thing i find and laugh at is that even if you have the money for the phone alone, maybe even more than its worth for alone, they wont give it to you unless you sign up for a 2 year contract. So that i say is pretty whack. But then thats why theres Ebay and Craigslist! : D
But really… It would be much easier. Now, ive read articles on reasons why they wouldnt want to do this, and it could be because they could “hack” them, unlock and go to another “carrier(even though tmobile in the UK had the right idea, it still would have gotten out there.)”, “mod” and some other stuff like that, that would most likely piss off apple. But not all would. Some would probably want it to give as a gift. I dont know, i just find it funny.
