Last time we talked about T-Mobile’s upcoming HTC Touch Pro2 we had no idea how much the phone will cost. And T-Mobile is still not saying anything about price tags. But with a few days to go until the phone will find its way into stores, new images of the handset and a few pricing details have leaked to the public. It looks like the HTC Touch Pro2 will be available for $299 with a new 2-year plan while those of you not interested in new contracts will have to pay $599 for the phone.
What do you say? Are you going to get your HTC Touch Pro2 next week from T-Mobile or you’re ready to wait until everyone else launches their version?

Im gonna get an iphone bcoz $299 for it with a 2 year contract is too expensive!
I really wanted this phone, but when every other cell provider has a flagship smatphone for $199 whats the point. I love T-mobile, but really step your game up. the phone was announced 6 months ago and you want $299
Are you kidding me! You people obviously don’t know the value of this phone. As much as I would like the phone to be less expensive I think $299 is very reasonable.
So now, will I go to tmobile or will I wait for other phone providers… hmm… (current provider vz)
Well I like that vz lowered most of their smart phone prices to just $99 to compete with iphone. However I really doubt that when they release tp2 they will price it for $99 as well, since that is the current price of the tp1. Even if they did, plans are more expensive, chances are they will strip valuable features too..
As far as sprint, I never used sprint, and too afraid to experiment with something as important as my phone. So unless they had some super awesome deal or something different I won’t consider them.
I wouldn’t mind going ATT, mostly because i know someone that works there and i know the service is pretty reliable now. However I hate their obsession with the iphone.
So I think I just made up my mind, right here in this post. When tmobile releases the phone on august 12th I will be the first in line!
What to do with existing VZ service still in contract… hmm might just keep it around. Having two phones rock!
$299 is ridiculous! This is all relative - You have to consider other phones and other carriers. W/ old iphones at $100 from AT&T, the ONLY marketshare T-Mobile will get w/ this move is existing Tmo customers who want a Windows phone … which obviously isn’t too many since it took them this long to come out w/ another touchscreen WinMo phone.
I’ve been w/ Tmo for like 6 yrs now (had MDA and Wing), but this slap in the face is exactly what I needed to start considering other carriers. I may wait to see what Sprint or VZ does w/ the price, but this is OLD hardware. At least w/ a new iPhone, you’re getting something faster than the previous model (and something that will turn heads).
Josh are you Crazy, iPhone is VERY OLD Technology. The Touch Pro2 is Miles Ahead of the iPhone. iPhone doesn’t even have a PROPER OS, its only a Program Launcher and they have the Audacity to call it a “Smartphone”.
iPhone is only for Mindless Pions who have no idea exactly what a TRUE Smartphone is, they only want something that people will think is a Status symbol which is Bull. Plus I don’t want a Phone that everybody and their Grandmother has, the iPhone has taken the Place as the Moto Razor where it Belongs.
Have fun! - D
Those of you who have not had the chance to play with an HTC phone loaded with Winmo have no right saying that Winmo is old and boring. HTC developed there own version of Winmo and called it Touch Flo 3d. It is super fast, looks superb and is very finger friendly. I can’t wait for Winmo 6.5 with Touch Flo 3d 2.5. It will definitely be the slickest mobile OS out there.
I tried liking the iphone, I really did but it fell short in many categories.
1. In the year 2009 I would expect my phone to record video.
I want:
2. a WVGA high resolution screen
3. a Flash Based Web Browsers
4. copy/paste
5. tethering
6. GPS navigation with voice
7. Replaceable Battery
8. Multitasking (ability to run multiple apps at once)
9. Sling + Pandora over 3G
10. A way to save email attachments
11. Email attachments that go beyond simple pictures
12. Microsoft Office Document reader and editor
The list goes on and on. In the end, Apple did a great job at marketing this so called smart phone. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great toy for the age group 12-23 but I prefer powerhouses built for productivity and ability.
The TP2 is a BIG BOY TOY!
299 vs 199 iphone. then add 2 years of mandatory internet. Oh whoopsy, thats an extra 1000 bucks with ATT. Have fun with that, I’ll stick with tmobile and the superior touch pro 2 hardware.
Is it me or doe the Tmo version (Mocha) recall the stylings of the osborne 1??
I’ll pay $299 for the Sprint or Vzn versoins. they’re sleeker and more eye appealing.
The new TouchPro 2 for T-Mobile will be the top of the line smartphone when it is released for public sale on Wednesday, August 12th. This phone will surpass sales of the MyTouch 3G within one week I am most certain and will bring in quite a bundle of smartphone lovers from other carriers. People want highly affordable cell phone service which T-Mobile provides… The only downside… and quite major really… is not having enough top of the line phones vs ATT, Sprint, and Verizon.
In the future I would hope T-Mobile would release more HTC phones since they do so well in the selling point area. HTC is VERY high quality!
I currently use an iPhone 3G unlocked for T-Mobile because I wanted to wait for something better and I believe the time has come to renew my contract and check this baby out for my 14 day trial period… and I must say I want it NOW!

I just laughed out loud at the dude who just said that iphone is very old technology while the Touch Pro 2 is miles ahead of it. Hahaha. I have owned two Windows Mobile phones (including the T-Mobile Shadow I currently use), but I am certainly not delusional to think that the Touch Pro 2 is miles ahead of the “very old technology” iPhone. And yes, I have seen the full technical specs of the Touch Pro 2. It will be a good phone, and it’s what I have been waiting for to make a decision about whether I stay with T-Mobile to jump ship to another provider. However, I am jumping ship to Sprint for the Palm Pre because it does something neither WinMo or the iPhone can do - sync with multiple Exchange servers/accounts.
I had the original HTC Touch Pro with Sprint and it was a sluggish phone. It always froze up and I always had to reset it. So why would I get the same exact phone on T-Mobile? I don’t care if they call it the Touch Pro 2, it is still running Winmo 6.1…..same exact phone!!! I bought the My Touch 3G last week and love it. Plus, the Touch Pro 2 on T-Mobile looks drastically different than the original model(and not for the better). And is it me, or does the screen look much smaller???
Todd, you officially fail.
$299 is totally reasonable for this phone! I can’t wait!!!!!! I love T-Mobile! I’ve been with them for 3 years now and they’re the best. Having tried all the other cell phone companies since the beginning of time, I have to say that T-Mobile has the best customer service ever! And now they’re going to have the best phone out there! Woo-hoo!!!!! It will be mine!
Hey The Dude, remember that scene in the Big Lebowski when the Dude, Donnie and Walter go watch the Dudes’ landlord do his interpretive dance routine. Your post remains me of that dance routine……dumb and pointless. Mark it zero DUDE.
Justin….WOW!!
All great points. I have an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile. I agree, the iPhone is great if you are 23 or younger. Apple may have added copy and paste but everything but I need a phone that does EVERYTHING … I am ready for my 14 day trial on the Touch Pro 2!!
THANK GOD they didnt call it WING 2 … it would have reminded me constantly of a South Park episode!! AND its great that its a mocha color … I dont want it confused at all with a stupid iphone.
Ed
**** see the typo? Stupid copy and paste on iPhone
