As the G1 runs the Android open-source OS, trying to jailbreak the phone seems rather silly. But apparently some clever people went ahead and pulled it off. Jailbreaking the G1 means you can install any application you want without being restricted to what’s officially supported.
But don’t worry sports’ fans! T-Mobile strikes back. The new firmware update, RC30 takes care of the whole jailbreaking thing! RC30 will block that telnetd which was used to get root access which means you won’t be able to do exactly anything with your G1. Anything that HTC, T-Mobile or Google wouldn’t want you to do. Here’s what Google said:
We’ve been notified of this issue (Jailbreaking of Android) and have developed a fix. We’re currently working with our partners to push the fix out and updating the open source code base to reflect these changes.
Your move jailbreakers!

Bull…thats what i say…why keep trying to block these jailbreaks…u know what that does…it makes the hackers step there game up and get better…u think ur stopping them…ur only making them stronger…whatever happen to our constituional rights!!! But hey maybe i am crazy
First of all I think it’s funny that the writer calls jailbreaking the phone silly. It’s apparent that the writer has no idea of the full capability of the phone itself. I own a G1 and I am very happy with it but when I found out that I could jailbreak it. I was very happy. Now let it be known I am not a hacker, nor do I claim to be. I can read and write some html code and I’m comfortable using a terminal and or the command prompt. Jailbreaking the G1 is the fist step in unlocking the door to its full potential. Let me explain. The G1’s software is open source. Which means that anyone can grab the source code and build software from it for free. In other word free software!!! Speaking of free software, Google themselves are working on they’re own O.S. (Operating System) that is Linux based. Can you guess what the G1’s software is based on? I’m guessing that it’s based on the O.S. that they are working but I’m just guessing. If those of you who are reading this are asking what is Linux and what is he talking about? Linux is another type of Operating System just like Windows XP is or Mac has. The difference is that just like the Mac O.S. it’s based on the UNIX language but is open source and is developed, poked and prodded by the Linux community. In other words the people who use it and want to make it better are. Which they are making it faster, better, stronger, more secure then Windows and the cost of is FREE. Yes free!!! You can download it and run it for free. So can you see where I’m going with this? Google had given the community not the key but access to the key to open a locked door. Jailbreacking the G1 was the first step to doing silly things like making your G1 phone open and close your garage door or like what I wanted to do. Load and install Linux on it, making my phone not just a phone with net access but a full mobile computer that fits in my jeans pocket. As far as hackers stepping up there game. Yes it’s true but the guy who hacked the G1 first is the same guy who hacked the I-phone and a Mac O.S. Can you guess what he did? He told all of the companies how he did it and how to fix it. Google has once again hidden the key to unlock the door again and has updated the software with an update called RC30. The RC30 update has not only made the G1 software more secure but has locked the door to jailbreaking it. The G1 community will soon find away to cracking it or should I say hacking it again and jailbreak it. As of right now because of the RC30 update I may have the tools but I don’t have the knowhow to jailbreak my G1 but I will keep on typing in (G1 hacks jailbreak) in my search bar until I find away.
