I was just considering cutting old Stevie some slack since it looked like he was actually working for a change. If last year he went ahead and told everyone what he thinks about the iPhone and Apple’s success in selling it, now he talks about the first Android device. The G1 won’t be a threat to Microsoft either. Apparently no product will, no matter how much market share Windows Mobile might loose to Apple and Google in the future.
Ballmer had a chance of saying something worth remembering at the PDC in the UK and he blew it. He said that Android is unattractive and it won’t threaten Microsoft position in the mobile business: “they’ve got one handset maker, we’ve got 55. They’re available through one operator, we’ve got 175.” Well there’s this little thing we like to call the Open Handset Alliance which is pretty damn interested in the Google thing.
Unfortunately we don’t have footage of Ballmer talking about Google so we’d have to remember his style from an earlier intervention (video above).
