State of DC sues AT&T over calling cardsBy Brian - 01/03/2010 5:50:42 PM |
The state of District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit against AT&T for the remains of the amounts on calling cards which people don’t use. If someone buys a calling card for $10 and spends $9.50 and throws the rest out, AT&T, on some level, profit that 50 cents. Now the state of DC wants those leftover 50 cents, as, according to state laws, if the amount isn’t claimed in 3 years, it belongs to the state as “unclaimed property”.
Yep, for once, it’s the state who are nickel and diming the companies. But even if AT&T can afford it, it can turn out as a landmark case, and in the end, cost a lot of money to the telcos.
