Sprint has recently sent out a press release detailing their intentions to purchase Virgin Mobile USA. You’ll be familiar with Virgin Mobile as one of the nation’s premiere pre-paid carriers.
Anyways, the deal is apparantly set to go down for $483 million in addition to Sprint paying off +$250 million of Virgin Mobile’s debt.
There’s no word on what Sprint plans to do with the Virgin brand but we’ll find out soon enough.

This is not good news for consumers. It means that there are going to be fewer prepaid options out there, a less competitive market. Thats why i think they start coming out with a bunch gimmicks. Such as virgins idea of a welfare plan, offering 120 minutes for 10 bucks, besides this is just a bad idea. To offer a break to only a few people when in this economy everyone could really use a break is just going to alienate their other customers.
