When two grown-up companies like Sprint and Nextel love each other very very much, offsprings like the current Sprint Nextel will emerge. But this baby is not what Sprint had in mind from Nextel. Sprint doesn’t want to have anything to do with Nextel anymore and we’ve know for quite a while they’ve been having some problems. Couples counseling didn’t work for them and Sprint desperately wants someone to buy its Nextel corporation.

Leaving jokes aside, the Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint has found two potential buyers. NII is a company from Latin America and Cerberus Capital Management is a private-equity firm. Besides those two there are others interested in Nextel but no specific arrangement has been made yet. A second round of bidding should start in a few days.

Wonder if Sprint is going to make a profit? Yeah, me too. In 2005 it has acquired Nextel for $35 billion. Let’s see what they can make of it now.
