13 Jun 08 Sprint Nextel Direct Connect phones

Sprint recently launched four new Nextel Direct Connect phones based on Qualcomm’s QChat(R) technology. The models include Z400 by Samsung, LX400 by LG, PRO-200 and PRO-700 by Sanyo. The phones feature Sprint’s Mobile Broadband and Nextel Direct Connect services.

“Instant connections help customers get things done more efficiently, and these new phones allow us to continue to deliver on the gold standard of instant push-to-talk connectivity on the Now Network,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product and technology development for Sprint. “In addition to delivering on this instant connectivity, these new phones also add the speed of Sprint Mobile Broadband and Sprint’s largest voice calling area so customers can do even more, faster.”

Nextel Direct Connect push-to-talk service based phone LX400 by LG boast Bluetooth features 1.3 megapixel camera, GPS and noise reduction technology. Shock, dust and vibration resistant Z400 by Samsung features Bluetooth, Sprint Navigation and 1.3 Megapixel camera. The slim PRO-200 by Sanyo delivers Nextel Direct Connect push-to-talk services along with Bluetooth, messaging and mobile email capabilities. Rugged PRO-700 bears military standards certification for shock, dust and vibration.

All the phones feature Direct Connect (R), Group Connect and Call Alerts. While LG LX400 is priced at $79.99, the Z400 by Samsung is priced at $99.99. Sanyo PRO-200 and PRO-700 are priced at $49.99 and $79.99 respectively. All the new models will be available by June 15 through sprint retail stores.

    [...] Sprint-Nextel is going to sell a lot of cellphone towers to TowerCo. What’s funny is that after selling about 3300 towers they will actually own a small number of towers. What do I mean a lot? I mean about 3300 towers worth about $670 million. Not that bad considering they seem to desperately need money for paying off debts. You aren’t going to pay roaming charges, don’t worry! Despite selling towers, Sprint will still rent the same ones to further use. Imagine you are selling your own apartment and then you start paying rent for it. Simple as that. [...]
