[...] Sony Ericsson is taking its cameraphones very seriously. At the rate we are going we will probably have most point and shoot cameras replaced with cameraphones. We’ve seen plenty of cell phones sporting a rather good built-in camera. 5 to 8 megapixels is what we’ve seen so far and the 9 megapixel camera module is waiting to be inserted in various phone. Sony Ericsson is also rumored to launch a 12 megapixel camera sometime in 2009 so it’s not quite a surprise that the company wants to improve the features of its cameraphones. Besides the rising megapixel Sony Ericsson is working on shutter and autofocus speeds, zoom and many others. They have a recent patent which talks about better zoom functionality. Sony Ericsson wants to make the zoom automatic by following the movement of the handset. Moving your hand away from your body and closing it to your body would automatically make the device zoom in and out. That means future cameraphones should be aware of their movement and of their current position related to you. That means future cameraphones will have accelerometers and proximity sensors. So let’s see a working prototype already!
