So the folks out at Mobilefun sent me a solar powered cell phone case, and I have to admit, I was intrigued.  I certainly liked the thought of what amounted to a wallet for a cell phone–I mostly just carry mine loose in my coat–and the idea that it could recharge the phone too?  Well, that was icing on the cake.

It comes with a panoply of plugins to help ensure that, despite the brand of phone you happen to be partial to, the solar cell phone case will be able to recharge it.  And on the off chance that yours ISN’T one of the many that it’ll work with, it’s not a huge loss–the solar powered cell phone case comes with a thirty day money-back guarantee.

Now, it will definitely protect your cell phone against a lot of nasty stuff–dust, rain, all the little scratches (I didn’t test it against waterproofing and drops because frankly, that’s a solar panel on top.  Didn’t want to risk breaking it.) And indeed, you can build up a solar charge on this thing and use it to recharge your phone.

Of course, as is the case with most solar devices, this thing isn’t exactly cranking out the ohms and ergs, if you catch my drift.  I left this thing in the sun for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT and it’s STILL “charging” .  To be fair, I AM in the Northern Hemisphere in the waning days of winter, so sunlight’s at a premium.  Maybe in June it charges a bit faster, but still–don’t look to this thing to replace the AC outlet.

But for one last call, or for emergencies, you could definitely do worse.
