So how many iPads were sold this weekend? Try one million*

iPad saleNow that the over-the-weekend hype for the iPad has almost passed, it is about time someone comes up with a number for how many iPads were actually sold on its opening weekend.

The answer, according to my source, is somewhere around one million. It is believed that about 700,000 sold on its first day (yesterday), and 300,000 could be sold today. That is about one million total.

In comparison, about 270,000 iPhones were sold for its opening weekend. That’s an increase by almost 400 percent. Man, it must be like Christmas for Apple over this weekend.

* These numbers have a way of shrinking after the hype blows over, and we’ll try to give you numbers that may or may not be a realistic reflection of actual iPad sales.
