Your Android handset, let’s call it your G1 since there aren’t any other Android phones roaming around, is ready for Skype. And so are other 100 Java-enabled phones from various manufacturers like: LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

Skype has announced the new Skype Mobile beta which will be compatible will all those phones. Using the new Skype Mobile beta you will be able to:

  • Make Skype-to-Skype calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world
  • Send/receive instant messages to/from individuals or groups
  • Make Skype calls at low rates to people on landlines or mobile phones
  • Receive calls to your online personal phone number on Skype
  • See when your Skype contacts are online/available to chat

Skype Mobile beta will let you use both airtime minutes and cellular data to make and receive calls and it can be used worldwide to make calls to United States, United Kingdom, Poland, Brazil (Rio and Sao Paolo), Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Australia and New Zealand. Hopefully support for other countries will also be included in the near future. In the mean time check the list above to see if our Java-enabled phone qualifies for the new Skype software.
