Skype attempts to open up cellular networks

|

As we all know, cellular phone carriers have a nice firm hold on the control over their network, essentially being able to allow what software and hardware are able to connect. Skype recently submitted a petition to the FCC asking that the cellular phone carriers give some flexibility about what kinds of software and hardware can be connected to their network. In doing so Skype hopes to provide free calling over expensive cellular networks. Currently, Skype is the only company attempting to open up these cellular networks for the benefit of many consumers.
