Shorter and Thinner but Wider iPod nano Announced
Next in order of announcement is the new iPod nano.
Not my personal favorite (because I'm so in love with the form factor of my 2nd Gen iPod Nano), these new ones are the same "fatty" nanos that leaked on the net a few weeks ago, and were pulled by Apple's Legal team.
Shorter and thinner (6.5mm) than its predecessor the new Nano is a bit wider, to accommodate a bigger screen to allow for video playback. It also supports an enhanced interface, that features a new split screen, navigate on the left side and see a preview on the right.
As expected we're also seeing cover flow debut, and an iPhone-eque way of selecting tracks via the album art. Users get a fully functional video ipod too including the ability to watch movies, tv shows, and listen to podcasts or audio books and browse through photos.
You can now also play games on the Nano. Yey! Games sell for $4.99 each, but the nano comes with 3 already. You'll get iQuiz, Klondike, and Vortex. Yey! Yey!
The new nanos also sport a new 320x240 brighter display that's supposedly 65% brighter than before and come in 4GB and 8GB models which sell at $149 and $199 respectively. The 4GB model can store up to 1000 songs, 3500 photos, 4 hours of video or some of each, while the 8GB model stores up to 2000 songs, 7000 photos or 8 hours of video.
The new nano is available in all same dull colors as the new shuffles (sorry Apple we're not loving it, although maybe black is fine). Battery life on this new device is rated at 24 hours for audio and up to 5 hours for video.
Oh and my first question is does it work with the Nike + Running Kit.
Answer. It does.
