Samsung Omnia Cell Phone Review–Always A SurpriseBy Steve Anderson - 02/01/2010 12:01:54 AM |
Samsung has always kind of baffled me. They’re a great source for doing things you don’t expect, especially in their cell phones. So it wasn’t exactly a surprise that the Samsung Omnia would give me a couple of interesting surprises to discuss–read on.
The Samsung Omnia is a smartphone with a touch screen that can include a QWERTY keyboard on the touch screen. The Home screen is completely customizable and the phone itself offers a startlingly wide array of features like haptic feedback, accelerometer, Windows Mobile, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, and a five megapixel camera as well as support for a wide variety of audio and video files.
I didn’t much enjoy the cube menu, though some people–especially former Transformers fans, might well get a kick out of working a menu that almost looks like their old favorite cartoon. And admittedly, using that QWERTY keyboard even in landscape mode can be pretty cramped even under the best of conditions–forget about trying to use it without a stylus in portrait mode unless you have fingers roughly the same diameter as sewing needles.
But still, a wide variety of features and a thorougly unique menu definitely makes the Samsung Omnia one worth considering.
The Good
Vast array of features
Singularly unique menu
The Bad
Cramped touch screen
Score 8/10
