Samsung ushered in a new era of high-performance portable hard drives with the introduction of the new 1.8″ form factor 120-gig N2 Series hard drive. At 4200rpm, this hard drive is ideal for notebooks and other portable devices.

Featuring lower power consumption and quiet operation, the N2 drives are available in capacities 80GB to 120GB, and targeted at MP3 players, cell phones, UMPCs and camcorders.

Other advantages of the N2 drive include faster boot times and perpendicular recording technology. They come with PATA and ZIF interfaces, offering 8 megs of cache and 15 ms seek time.

Priced at US $249 for the 120GB N2 Samsung drive.
