Samsung is going to enter in the mobile application business as it has already made its TouchWiz UI available to developers. Samsung will be working with Yahoo, Google and AccuWeather to offer “rich connected applications” or TouchWiz Widgets to its customers. More developers should arrive in the near future so we might see a whole new range of applications made for Samsung’s TouchWiz phones.

Samsung will work with UI Evolution and it will offer:

… a set of developer tools for Samsung to support the easy development of our rich connected mobile applications. Based upon the Eclipse IDE, developers will have a custom interface allowing them to easily access code samples, FAQ’s, device emulation, and submission of content for sale through the Samsung Rich Connected Application storefront.

The great thing about this new TouchWiz apps is that they will work no matter what the OS will be. Samsung can release Symbian, Windows Mobile or Android phones with TouchWiz on top and the applications will work flawlessly. This sounds like a recipe for success for an app store. I’d be more interested in purchasing applications which can be later on taken to a different OS. Will Samsung succeed in the app store business?
