I’d like to be as objective as possible when comparing any new smartphone with the iPhone. It’s really difficult since I’m a fan of the iPhone. When comparing ‘Insert Name’ with the iPhone I’d go “and the iPhone wins in a second”.

Samsung Instinct is coming via Sprint this June. When? June 20th. Talk about a false start. If I were in charge of Samsung I’d be doing some serious screaming at the marketing department. Why release the Instinct so late after the WWDC 2008? Giving Apple a head start?

Getting back on track, I guess you watched the video above, and there are others below too. They all show you how the Instict beats the iPhone. Better GPS, better music download, better internet surfing. What do you mean guys, and yeah, I am talking to Samsung developers, you managed to beat iPhone, a phone that was here for a year now? You mean to tell me it took you a year to come up with something better? Is it going to take another year to beat the new 3G iPhone? What, you weren’t expecting that?

Don’t get me wrong, the Instinct looks good and is quite dependable. So is the HTC Touch Diamond. Or the BlackBerry Bold. And the list could go on. And no, the iPhone isn’t flawless, far from it. Iit’s just better, slimmer, friendlier.

Let’s look at what Sprint is counting on from Samsung Instinct:

  • Spring TV with live on demand programming, including Sprint Exclusive Entertainment
  • Sprint Music Store with wireless downloads of $0.99/track
  • Sprint Radio with more than 150 channels
  • Sprint Media Manager application
  • Background music while texting SMS, playing or surfing the web
  • Spring Navigation with GPS audio and visual help
  • Microsoft Live Search for Spring
  • Voice to action button
  • Visual Voicemail
  • 2 megapixels camera with 2x digital zoom and video recording capabilities
  • Stereo Bluetooth technology
  • audio caller ID
  • threaded messaging,
  • Mobile Sync for data backup
  • Phone as modem capability
  • 3.1 inch display
  • LiIon battery with ip to 6 hours of continous talk time
  • 3G EV-DO connectivity
  • 2GB microSD card
  • USB connectivity
  • virtual full QWERTY

And the list can go on and on. Sure I will have to admit is an amasing piece of modern technology. Kudos to Samsung. But guess who wins? Apple and their iPhone (and they win without me telling you any of their specs.)

Sprint better get ready to come up with smart iPhone plans too. As for the Instinct that’s coming on June 20th I have two major issues. The price isn’t specified yet, although rumored at $300. The other thing I wouldn’t appreciate is the unlimted $69.99/month which is optional but required if you want all that Sprint Everything.

So I have a question for both Sprint and Samsung which I forgot to ask when I had the chance, when is the Instinct2 coming?
