Samsung A137 Cell Phone Review–Simple Above AllBy Steve Anderson - 03/17/2010 12:02:43 AM |
Sometimes it’s nice to take a look at a simpler phone.
Some folks out there–and I can actually understand the inclination–really don’t want that kind of Swiss Army phone with all the bells and whistles. Every time I see a phone like that I instinctually think of my own parents, who are of course getting older and as such would rather not have a phone that takes time to learn about and practice to use fully. They want a cell phone that’s like their phone at home–oh, sure, you’ve got to open it to use it, but that’s no big deal, even for them. They want something you can pick up and dial, and that’s a pretty good explanation of the Samsung A137.
The Samsung A137 offers an MP3 player, video player, voice recorder, mobile email, mobile web, AGPS, calendar, clock, world clock, converter options, a phone book with space for five hundred name and number entries, stopwatch, speaker phone, and a battery that can yield five solid hours of talk time on a single charge.
You can see right off that several things are missing here. There’s no push to talk option, no mobile television or even radio capability, no games. The aesthetics on this beastie are almost blindingly simplistic and the options are a bit slim. But that having been said, everything is accessible and easy to both learn and use. You’ll get the hang of this phone in a matter of minutes. Even older folks will likely have an easy time mastering this phone.
So if simple is your guiding purpose in cell phone choice, then you’ll definitely want to get your hands on a Samsung A137.
The Good
Extremely simple design
Low learning curve
The Bad
Lack of options
Oversimplified aesthetic–it looks as simple as it operates
Score 7 / 10
