A while back ago T-Mobile turned on their 3G network in New York. And you must remember that it was quite a fuss about it. We weren’t sure if T-Mobile was launching their 3G network for voice calls only, with 3G data to be added later or if they were going to offer full 3G support for voice and data. Only when the New York 3G network finally went live we received confirmation that T-Mobile had a regular, fully working network, offering better voice calls and higher data transfer speeds.
Now we hear that T-Mobile is going to launch a Metropolitan Chicago 3G network. That’s great, they should be expending and improving. After all, AT&T has been working to deploy full HSPA 3G support before the iPhone hit the stores; Alltel is upgrading its EVDO network and launching it in other US markets. But how did they manage to keep it a secret for so long. No memo leaks, no secret sources to unveil this secret?
We’ll see tomorrow if all this is real or not.
