Although no RIM handset will match the number of iPhones sold so far, when taken together, RIM’s phones have sold better than Apple‘s phones. That means more BlackBerries sold than iPhone versions. At least that’s what happened in the first quarter.

When it comes to the most popular Berry it seems that the Curve 83xx series are the most popular. The Curve was America’s best selling smartphone in Q1 according to analysts from the NPD group. The iPhone gets the second place followed by the Storm and the Pearl. The G1 is only in the fifth place as follows:

1. RIM BlackBerry Curve (all 83XX models)
2. Apple iPhone 3G (all models)
3. RIM BlackBerry Storm
4. RIM BlackBerry Pearl (all models, except flip)
5. T-Mobile G1

In total RIM sold 7.8 million BlackBerry phones and its probably going to sell more in the following months.
