07 May 10 RichardSolo BluePack S3 Charger Review–Terrific In Emergencies

The folks out at RichardSolo (thanks in large part to the work of the Max Borges Agency) sent me a BluePack S3 to review, and I have to admit, for something that seems so limited in its usefulness, it’s actually really cool.

The BluePack S3, you see, is a portable backup battery for your iPhone or iPod (it’s even certified by Apple, and will work with your iPad to boot.  It’ll also work with most other devices that have a mini USB, like Blackberry gear and some HTC phones).  It’s made of solid aluminum, which is a lot stronger than you think, plus it’s scratch and scuff resistant.  It boasts three LED lights on the side to indicate the strength of the remaining charge and it also offers an LED flashlight, as well as all the cables and plugins you’ll need to charge all your Apple gear.  It’ll even prevent overcharging and short circuits, thus extending the life of the charger.

RichardSolo’s own estimates say this sucker can, essentially, give your iPhone two hundred percent more talk time max, which is roughly the same as two full recharges.  And when you consider further that it also offers a flashlight (that turns on and stays on until you turn it off, a welcome feature in a darkened room, and beats holding down an on button all hollow), it just makes the BluePack S3 that much more valuable.

RichardSolo’s selling these for ninety bucks, but the first time your iPhone runs out of juice in the middle of nowhere, you’ll cheerfully pay double for one of these to give you a fast recharge.  If you’re a heavy iPhone / iPod / iPad user, you’ll be especially pleased with the utility and long-lasting charge this thing holds.

The RichardSolo BluePack S3, thusly, is a handy and highly useful package, and is a great way to carry a little extra juice with you for emergencies.

The Good

Spectacular emergency tool

Great battery life

Flashlight stays on until switched off

The Bad

All it does is charge things.
