Verizon Wireless to allow phones to act as modems
In a change of policy, Verizon Wireless will now allow subscribers to use a select number of mobile phones to act as modems for their laptops. Up until now, those who have managed to use their phones as high speed wireless modems for their laptops were doing so illegally.
Verizon will now make a new data plan available which allows certain phones to act as high speed modems. The plan will be priced at $59.99 a month on top of the current voice plan that the user may have. The approved list of phones include the LG VX9800, Motorola RAZR V3c, Motorola E815, and LG VX8100. Unfortunately the Treo 700w, and the Verizon XV6700 are not on the current list.
You also need to connect the phone to your laptop via a USB cable as it appears that Verizon will not be enabling the Bluetooth functionality. Via PC Magazine.
