Uniden, a wireless electronics manufacturer, has announced that it will be enter the mobile GPS arena with Uniden MapTrax. The designs are planned to be quite user friendly, with touch screens and text-to-speech navigation. They will have 2GB worth of memory to hold a preloaded map of North America, and three-meter accuracy.

The new GPS devices will have Bluetooth capability, which will allow the GPS device to synch with any Bluetooth enabled cell phone. This will enable the driver to make in-vehicle communications with few distractions from the road. The GPS LCD screens are planned to be 3.5 to 7 inches, which would make them the largest in the business. These screens will automatically adjust to lighting depending on the time of the day. Uniden’s GPS devices should be out by late 2006, with more to come in 2007.
