Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 and Tecra M7
Toshiba plans to put out two new laptop brands in their Satellite Pro line: the A120 and the Tecra M7. Some of the improvements are a new shock-protect chassis made for users who take their wireless online work on the road.
I am actually sitting here and typing this report on a Toshiba Satellite brand. I’m not certain what exact brand, but I have had no problems with it in the past six months. I bought a carrying case for it to protect from the bumps and bruises of travel, but it looks like these new models may not need the extra cushion.
For example, the A120 and M7 have been tested at a drop at 70cm, which is probably what would happen if I tried to put my laptop on a tabletop and somehow missed. To be honest, that has never happened, but I have almost got up with it still on my lap. I’m pretty certain that the distance from the lap to the ground is not over 70 centimeters. Hopefully, these laptops would survive if they landed on their screens.
These new models also come with a spill resistant keyboard up to 100cc. I have no idea how they test that. Did the testing department keep dumping liquids on the keyboard until it short circuited? I can just see it: “Assistant, give me 100ccs, stat! Oh no, we lost it! Dang! Better log the time of death.†I wonder if water affects it differently then say, Mountain Dew.
The features of the Satellite Pro A120 vary depending on how much you’re willing to spend. There are some constants, such as the 15.4†screen, DVD-CDRW, and one year warranty, but the rest of it is quite variable. It has 40, 60, or 80 GB of memory, with an optional 256 or 512MB maximum expandability. The Processor is an Intel Celeron M processor 410, the Intel Core Solo Processor T1350, or the Intel Centrino Duo Mobile technology with Intel Core Do Processor T2300E. Graphics adaptors are the ATI Radeon Xpress or the Intel 945GM Express. It comes with Windows XP Professional or Home Edition. The Battery life is either 2:04 or 4:00 hours. Packages for this computer have a wide range from £389-729, with the bigger options being the most costly.
As for the Tecra M7, it runs for about £1,099. It has a 14.1†screen and 80 GB of memory, with a 512 MB maximum expandability. It has the Intel Centrino Duo Mobile technology with Intel Core Do Processor T2300E, as well as Bluetooth capability. It has the sweet graphics adaptor NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M, and the battery lasts up to 3:18 hours. It also has a 3 year warranty and a Biometric Fingerprint Recognition.
In addition to these new products, Toshiba also plans to introduce some new models to its current line of notebooks, including the Satellite Pro L100, Tecra A6, M5, and M5L. So far, there has been no word as far as release date on these Toshiba products.
