Toshiba has announced the world's first HD-DVD recorder, the Toshiba RD-A1 which will be sold under the Vardia brand. It can records on single and dual layer HD-DVD-R discs as well as DVD-RAM/R/RW discs. It has a whopping 1 Terabyte hard disk storage which is really big and all the video encoding is done in H.264 and VC-1 formats respectively. The RD-A1 has all the standard Input / Output terminals like HDMI, iLink, 5.1 Ch analog audio, coaxial digital x 1, optical digital output x 1 and for input terminals it has S image x 1, composite x 3 and analog audio x 3, D1 x 1 and DV input x 1. Toshiba RD-A1 measures 457×408×159mm and weighs 15.2 kg. It will go on sale from July 14th for 398,000Yen which is about USD3,462.
