logo_tomtom%20logo.jpgTom Tom, a leading provider of personal navigation products and services, has recently announced the new NAVIGATOR 6. The NAVIGATOR 6 is the result of a successful merge of the TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 and MOBILE 5. This software package allows customers to integrate navigation systems into a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or cell phone.

The software is simple to install with an easy-to-use menu. TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 package begins with the desktop software for a home PC, MAC, or laptop. With TomTom HOME, you can download, manage, store, and transfer files into your portable device and let the adventure begin.

The NAVIGATOR 6 has so many helpful features, that it is nearly impossible to get lost. If you are trying to get to a place in your address book, the Contact navigation system will give you those directions. You can select from a number of routes including the one with the fastest time, shortest miles, even the one with the least amount of toll roads. The device also gives continual updates on traffic and weather.

With the night view and 65,000 colors, the 2D and 3D maps will guide you with both verbal and visual signals. That’s right, the NAVIGATOR 6 will talk to you, in approximately 22 languages. And if you don’t like the voice it’s using, you can select over 50 others. As for the visuals, they are designed to resemble road signs, so it is very easy to follow. But don’t worry if you miss a turn, because the NAVIGATOR 6 contains an instant re-router so you can find another way there. The NAVIGATOR 6 has a Safety Lock which disables several menu items, so you won’t be distracted by anything and can fully concentrate on the open road.

If you need to be at a certain place by a certain time, the Arrival time planning function will plan a route based on your desired arrival time. If time is not an issue, the NAVIGATOR can even find interesting things to see along the way with the Expanded Points of Interest Search. For trips with several destinations, you can use the Itinerary planning feature to schedule and find the fastest route to multiple stops. Watch out, though! The NAVIGATOR 6 has a speeding alert, and it will notify you if you are driving over the limit.

The Pedestrian Navigation view also helps when the driving ends. Simply take your portable device with you, and travel by foot. Since the NAVIGATOR 6 includes detailed maps of the United States and Canada feel free to explore. It also features the new TomTom Buddies service, which enables TomTom users to locate one another and even send instant messages.

The NAVIGATOR 6 should be available in early October 2006. It may be included within many PDA or smartphone packages. The stand-alone prices are $149 for the NAVIGATOR 6 software and maps on DVD; $249 for the software, DVD maps with GPS receiver; and $299 for software, GPS receiver, and maps on SD card.
