archos_604_3.jpgCNET has reviewed the Archos 604 and they give it brownie points for its price tag, its display, its ability to record video and audio via the optional kit, its built in speaker and kickstand. Its intuitive interface and its ability to view photos and listen to music simultaneously. However they were not impressed by the 30GB memory, the fact that one need’s to buy a number of optional kits to get true functionality, its proprietary USB cable and its disappointing audio quality.

The Archos 604 PVP does practically everything under the same and the portable video player includes a brushed metal casing and a 4.3-inch 480x272 pixel/16-million-color wide screen. It is compatible with MPEG-4 ASP up to 720x480 at 30fps, AVI file container with MP4 file format, WMV9, and protected WMV.When it comes to audio, it supports all the important formats like MP3, WMA, subscription WMA, and WAV files. It’s a bonafied Photo Viewer too and one can view them in either thumbnail mode or Slideshow mode.

In the end, the review concludes “The do-it-all Archos 604 with its improved design and low base price is slightly marred by mediocre audio performance. It's an amazing PVP, but not a great audio player.”
