Stop Press! Commodore to make comeback at CES 2006

commodore_logo.jpgCommodore... hmm, now why does that name sound so familiar?

Wait, Commodore is making a comeback? No joke guys, the legendary company behind the groundbreaking Commodore 64 computer system will be unveiling its latest offerings at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Commodore will officially unveil not one but three products for the US domestic market: Commodore Navigator, Commodore Multimedia Tower and Commodore MediaBox.

The company is hoping these new products will help re-ignite the glory days of the 80's. I just loved the Commodore 64 when I was a kid, it's nice to see them back. They will be at At Sands Booth # 71007. http://www.commodoreworld.com/

From the name you would've already guessed that it was a GPS receiver. Well, the Navigator is not just a GPS receiver. This Windows CE-based device offers a 20 gig hard drive and also has software to play audio and video. Getting lost will never be boring again I'm sure.

The Navigator sports a 3.6" touch screen and offers 2D and 3D views when using the GPS capabilities. It delivers driving instructions in 18 languages and features car and cycling modes as well, allowing you to figure out the easiest route. Audio formats supported include MP3 and WMA, and the player is DRM9-compatible. MPEG and DivX video formats are supported as well.

The Multimedia Tower is a kiosk that offers digital music and mobile content (including ring tones, games and wallpapers) which customers can readily access. Ideal for malls and other retail establishments, the Tower houses a database of music media and provides users with a convenient interface allowing them to download the latest chartbusters.

It features a card reader - err, credit card reader, not MMC or SD - so you can immediately purchase and download the media. It is said to be compatible with most mobile phones and MP3 players across the world and is available in a stand-alone single unit or a wall unit with three or more dispensers.

Commodore MediaBox
A complete home entertainment system, the MediaBox sports a digital TV tuner that can also record video onto an included 80GB hard drive. And that's not all, you can also play videos, music and photos on your television, as well as get online.
