Sprint Nextel has announced the launching of the new Nextel Direct Send Picture service. The service targets Nextel subscribers with capable Nextel phones and provides the ability to send and review pictures quickly while users are on a Nextel Walkie Talkie call. If you are talking with another Nextel user then the two of you can view and discuss pictures with each other without changing between voice and data services.

This new service is useful to people who need to share voice and images with one another on a consistent basis. Examples of this include people out in the field working in the real estate market, or insurance adjusters looking at car damages. You can easily capture an image, and then share it with someone else while talking to them at the same time.

The Direct Send Picture service builds upon the Direct Send service that Nextel launched last year and will be initially free to users until Feb. 26th of 2006. After that, Sprint Nextel will charge 0.25 cents for images sent and received.

The Direct Send Picture service is available on the recently announced Motorola i870 phone and will be an included feature on all future Nextel phones. Via SlashPhone.
