Sony VAIO AX Notebook
Sony announced their new offering in multimedia notebook PCs, the VAIO AX Digital Studio PC, slated to bridge the gap between conventional desktop PCs and notebooks.
The VAIO AX features a wide 17" WXGA+ LCD display with Sony's XBRITE technology for an excellent visual experience. It comes with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, so with a TV tuner you can watch and record your favorite TV shows onto a DVD thanks to the integrated DVD+R double layer DVD+/-RW drive.
An interesting feature of the VAIO AX is the multi-function bay that allows you to swap components as you require. Take out the TV-tuner bay unit and plug in an optional 80GB HDD bay unit and you switch from an entertainment system to a storage device. For an additional multi-function bay, you can also go in for a docking station.
The VAIO AX additionally features biometric fingerprint security. A host of Sony multimedia applications are bundled, including SonicStage Mastering Studio (for managing music), DVgate Plus (for capturing and editing video) and Click to DVD for burning DVDs. Two USB 2.0 ports, an IEEE 1394 port and card readers for Memory Stick and SD media are provided as well.
Available starting November 2005, the Sony VAIO AX starts at US $2,000 and is available from Sony Style.
