MDR-NC60_swivel.jpg Sony has just announced noise canceling headphones that promise a listening experience even in extremely noisy environments. The new MDR-NC60 headphones can reportedly block up to 85 percent of unwanted sounds, perfect for those want to listen to music outdoors or on the public commute home.

A microphone is built into the headphones to detect environment noise from low-fequency sources (40-1500hz) such as subway trains or household appliances. Then a electronic noise canceling circuit creates an opposite sound wave to cancel out that specific noise. The result is a quieter listening environment for listening.

A switch on the outside of the left earpiece can turn noise canceling on or off, while another can mute music altogether. The headphones are built to adjust to most head types and provide a snug cushioned fit. Swivel earcups also make the MDR-NC60 easy to pack and ensure portability.

The MDR-NC60 will retail for about $300 when it goes on sale in March. Pre-orders will also be accepted at Sony's website in February this year.
