Sony DCR-SR90E CamcorderSony's European arm unveiled a new HDD-based camcorder, the DCR-SR90E. With a 30-gig hard drive, 3-megapixel CCD and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound. The DCR-SR90E comes with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens, and supports up to 10x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom. The T* coating on the lens ensures less reflections, reduced flares and better contrast - all leading to high quality images. The built-in microphone can be used to record 5.1-channel surround sound for later playback on any home theater system.

If you are worried about ending up with a damaged hard drive, fear not. It comes with ample crash protection, including physical shock absorbers, internal 3G sensors that detect gravitational force in 3D and automatically disconnecting the HDD write head from the disk and others.

But the best part is the bundled editing solutions from Sony, which includes:

  • One Touch DVD Burn
  • Easy PC HDD Backup
  • Authoring - for advanced DVD authoring abilities, including manual editing, imposing original titles and manual DVD burning.

On a single charge, Sony claims a battery life of nearly 110 minutes. Slated for an April 2006 release throughout Europe, more information on the DCR-SR90E HDD-based Camcorder from Sony is available at Sony Europe.
