Sony the trusted brand for digital camera announced their new Sony Cybershot DSC S500 model that offers a remarkable combination of value, simplicity and performance that makes it perfect choice for first-time digital photographers. The Sony DSC S500 combines 6.2 megapixel resolution with a quality 3X optical zoom and 6x digital zoom lens design, terrific wide-angle shooting capability, 25MB internal memory for capturing shots in-camera, and a bright 2.4 inch TFT LCD screen that allows you to check your shots and share results immediately. If you think 25MB of internal memory is not enough for you, there is always an extra storage slot for Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo.

The Sony advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. S500 can capture 320 x 240 AVI audio/video clips at high frame rate with length limited only by the capacity of your media. Not just that, it also has a shuttle speed of 1 - 1/1000 sec, 30x sequence shooting (VGA), optical viewfinder, PictBridge support, internal flash with pre-flash, ISO up to 400 and several convenient photo modes: Auto, P-Auto, and Scene Selections for Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Candlelight, and Beach environments. You can fire off three shots automatically at 1 second intervals (VGA standard mode) or 2-second intervals (6 megapixel modes), a great way to capture a child’s first steps or a pet’s best tricks. With optional Sony NiMH rechargeable batteries, you can capture up to an amazing 350 shots, shooting capacity that’s about the equivalent of 10 rolls of 35mm film. It weight 146gram with the size of 92.4 x 62 x 31.2 mm. No words on the pricing side yet. I don’t think it will be cheap.
