Sony D-SLR Has a Name: AlphaSome might say it's about time, while others would say why now? But that doesn't mean Sony is going nowhere in its ambitions to build a digital single lens reflex (D-SLR) camera. The sub-brand has been given a name: α - that's right, alpha. Marking Sony's entry into the hugely competitive D-SLR market, Sony will be launching a complete camera system of accessories and lenses this summer.

Employing the Maxxum lens mount system, you can expect the same level of quality that you take for granted in Sony's other imaging devices and technologies, including the CyberShot and Handycam series. Fully compatible with lenses from Konica-Minolta and other manufacturers, Sony will be looking forward to welcome Konica-Minolta owners with Maxxum interchangeable lenses.

Further details are available from Sony's website.
