seagate.jpgSeagate today announced that it is upping the storage capacity of its portable hard drive to 160GB, built with the new perpendicular recording technology in a 2.5" form factor.

Ideal for taking your media collection on the go, the hard drive features an internal shock-mounted design as well as aluminum alloy body to protect it from drops. Since it is powered by the computer's USB port, there is no additional battery requirement or messy power cords.

Slated for a Feb release, the 160GB Portable Hard Drive will cost $379.

Seagate also unveiled the new 500GB eSATA Pushbutton Backup Hard Drive, which guarantees an external data backup and protection solution with 300MB/s or 3Gb/s interface rates - nearly five times faster than USB 2.0 or 1394a. This drive will be available in April 2006.
