SanDisk V-MATE Video Flash Memory Card RecorderSanDisk introduced its new V-Mate Video Memory Recorder at the IFA in Berlin. The V-Mate is an interesting device that lets you record video from TV, cable, DVD players, TiVos and other sources, onto their flash memory cards.

You can then insert the memory card onto compatible devices - be it a Sony PSP or laptop - and play it back, making your videos truly on-the-go. Depending on the target device, you can get a recording time of up to 3.5 hours of high quality vide per GB.

Which leads us to the all-important question: what card formats are supported. The V-Mate supports SD, MMC, MMCplus MMCmobile, SDHC, MiniSDHC, MicroSDHC, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo. Whew, that's the whole lot.

Video is compressed into MPEG4 in multiple formats, and depending on the target device, the correct file format is stored. The maximum recording resolution, however, is still 640x480 - which is still good enough to playback videos on a laptop or even TV. The device comes with its own remote control.

Measuring just 5.1" x 2.6" x 0.8", the SanDisk V-Mate Video Flash Memory Card Recorder is priced at US $129.99 (MSRP). Expect it in October 2006.
