Samsung to launch music download serviceI4U.com is reporting that Samsung is planning to launch a music download service to compete against the likes of Apple's iTunes. This isn't a surprising move given how many MP3 players and mobile phones Samsung manufactures these days.

The music download service would probably target their MP3 player community rather than their mobile phone users. A problem for the mobile phone market is with the wireless service providers themselves . Folks like Sprint and Verizon would rather implement their own music download service than go through Samsung - just ask Motorola when it came to their ROKR phone!

Thus Samsung will only have the digital audio player market to really make this work but this is where iTunes has shined continuously. There's plenty of competition outside of iTunes also ranging from Napster to Yahoo to MSN. It's not clear that Samsung has a winning proposition on their hands here.
