Samsung SC-D963 MiniDV Camcorder
Like we said, the 2006 CES saw some spanking new Samsung MiniDV camcorders. In the MiniDV Mega range, Samsung introduced the higher-end model, Samsung SC-D963.
The SC-D963 camcorder implements a 1.1 megapixel CCD as compared to the 680k pixel CCD used by the D36x range of camcorders, but why they stifled the optical zoom to 26x is anybody's guess. The preview LCD is okayish, a 2.5" color LCD. The viewfinder is also color, by the way.
Built-in memory is laughable - just 32MB. You get an SD/MMC slot to fill up your videos/images. Thanks to the enhanced CCD, you can grab digital still images at 1152x864 pixel resolution. Not great, but somewhat better than teh 800x600 offered by the lower end versions.
Targeted for a March 2006 release, the Samsung SC-D963 will carry a price tag of US $399.99. For details, head to Samsung's website.
