qq-ssd.jpgLooks like Samsung is breaking away from the shackles of hard drives! The company has confirmed this by launching two new portables that use solid state disk (SSD, aka flash) technology and have also bid adieu to hard drives when it comes to MP3 players. Thus we have the all new NT-Q30-SSD 12.1-inch laptop and the NT-Q1-SSD -a new avatar of the Q1 ultra-mobile PC which now has a 32GB SSD under its hood!

With the SSD technology at its side, the new models would be more hardy and faster. It would be able to boot up 25 to 50 per cent faster and would have impressive write and read speeds of 28MB per second and 53MB per second respectively. The new SSD would be more stable and shock resistant. However the best part is that it would be totally noise free. The NT-Q1-SSD should retail for £1,399 (yikes), but no clue about the NT-Q30-SSD laptop.

If you are not impressed by the 32GB memory of the new Q1, well don’t fret as a Q1b UMPC is also in the pipeline. This one would have specs like 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and will be powered by the Via's C7-M processor. No word on pricing or availability but we shall keep you up to date with all the developments!
