Samsung HSDPA Phone.jpgAt CES 2006 Samsung also announced the Samsung HSDPA Phone it is the first phone in the world to successfully demonstrate, new High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology, reaching speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. There have been several demonstrations of speeds up to 1.8 Mbps in the past, but HSDPA phone is the first phone to reach speeds of 3.6 Mbps.

Samsung's 3.6 Mbps HSDPA handset allows users to download content and surf the web much faster than on WCDMA or GSM/GPRS networks, it only takes 10secs at 3.6MBps HSDPA to download a 4MB file.

This phone is totally awesome you will be able to download large DVD-Quality Movies and vidoea games really fast, how cool is that? HSDPA, is seven times faster than that of WCDMA. In Europe the HSDPA phone will be carried by Vodafone. No word yet on a USA release date, I will keep you updated, peace out. www.samsung.com

Samsung HSDPA Phone Features Included: Faster, Broader and More profitable…

Higher Speed: High Speed Data Rates up to 14 Mbps
More Capacity: 3 - 5 times improved capacity
Faster Response: Quicker response time
Standardization; 3GPP Rel.5 Standardization
Cast-Effective: Short Time to market launch
HSDPA, the most attractive solution.

HSDPA, High Speed Downlink Packet Access, offers breakthrough mobile data speed – up to 14Mbps which is higher than most advanced 3G network in existence – as well as three-to five-fold sector throughput increase, which translates into significantly more data users on a single 3G carrier spectrum. This substantial increase in data rate and throughput is achieved through implementing a fast and complex channel control mechanism based on short physical layer frames. By delivering low cost and rich content applications, operators will be able to differentiate their services, create brand loyalty, grow data revenue and margins. Another important characteristic of HSDPA is the reduced variance in downlink transmission delay. A guaranteed short delay time is important for many applications such as interactive games and instant chatting. In general, HSDPA’s enhancements can be used to implement efficiently, the ‘interactive’ and ‘background’ Quality of Service classes standardized by 3GPP. HSDPA’s high data rates also improve streaming applications on shared packet channel, while the shortened roundtrip time will benefit web-browsing applications. As a result of these enhancements, operators using HSDPA will be able to support considerably higher numbers of high data users on a single radio carrier than is possible with any existing 3G technology.
