Bang & Olufsen Serene Having announced a partnership just a few months ago, Bang & Olufsen and Samsung have formally announced their new mobile phone to the public world and it's called the Serene. The Serene has a normal clamshell phone design yet is different in that the screen is on the lower half of the phone as opposed to the upper half of the phone.

The Serene measures 65 x 70 x 24 mm (which is larger than many mobile phones out in the market) and weighs 110grams. It's also a tri-band GSM phone supporting 900/1800/1900 MHZ frequencies and also supporting GPRS. There's a 2.1 color display which sports a resolution of 320 x 240 with 262K colors.

However, the truly unique design of the Serene is the placement of the controlling user interface which in this case is a circular keypad on the upper portion of the phone. It's truly an example of minimalism as the Serene doesn't attempt to overwhelm the user with a dizzying array of controls.

Other goodies include:

  • 0.3 Megapixel camera
  • Polyphonic ringtones
  • SMS, EMS, MMS, and email support
  • 3 hour talk time and 250 hour standby time

The Serene will be launched in Europe, Russia and the Ukraine during the fourth quarter of this year. Don't expect the phone to be cheap though as the stated price is around 1000 Euro.
