Samsung Digimax i6 Digital Camera and PMP
It's becoming increasingly hard to classify the latest digital devices on the market. The new Samsung Digimax i6 is one such product. The Samsung Digimax i6 is a 6 megapixel digital still camera that, hold your breath, doubles up as a portable media player capable of playing movies and MP3s. What was Samsung thinking? Playing videos is somewhat understandable. But playing MP3s? Who in their right mind would want to play music on their camera?
Let's talk about the camera first. The Digimax i6 is equipped with a 2.5" Colour TFT LCD (230,000 pixels), good enough for on-the-spot photo reviews. It measures a compact 96 x 61 x 18.5 mm and weighs about 130 grams. Optical zoom tops out at 3x. Digital zoom tops out at 5x while shooting photographs and 11x during playback. The camera incorporates Samsung's Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) technology - one very good feature. Another highlight of the i6 is the super macro mode that enables subjects to be photographed 1 cm away. Other features include numerous special effects, color effects, and shooting modes. The i6 can also record movies (VGA 640 x 480 at 30fps) in MPEG-4, the high-compression, high-quality video format. The ASR kicks in and does some useful work here as well.
If you really think that playing MP3s on your digital camera is cool, read this paragraph. Else, skip ahead. The i6 features Samsung's exclusive Digimax Converter software that can seamlessly convert MP3, WAV, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV, and ASF files for viewing on the Samsung Digimax i6. The less said about it the better.
The i6 comes equipped with 45MB of internal memory (extendable through an external SD/MMC slot) and comes bundled with ear buds for MP3 listening, a convenient cradle charging system, and a powerful lithium ion battery.
The Samsung Digimax i6 has an MSRP of $299.99 and will be available in February 2006.
