Samsung Develops World's Slimmest Mobile LCD Screen

It was just a few months ago that Samsung announced the development of the world's slimmest LCD for cell phones, and already they have broken their own record. Samsung announced that it has developed the world's slimmest LCD yet, which at 0.82mm is no thicker than a credit card.

Apparently, Samsung's Mobile Display Team redesigned the light guide plate subassembly and the glass substrate (if you understood any of it, you might consider joining Samsung!). Another development is the i-Lens technology resulting in a highly integrated LCD module that protects the cell phone's display by making it resistant to damage from vibration or shock.

The new LCD screen is available in 2.1" and 2.2" (diagonal) screen sizes. It features qVGA (240 x 320 pixels) resolution, 300nit brightness and a 500:1 contrast ratio. Expect commercial availability in H2 2007.
